“—We must use the Fleijas.”
The words were far away, unrecognizable to the girl sitting in the wheelchair. Her hands were shaking as she held the Damocles Key. Would this really make things for the better?
No, it had to. Even if—
She pressed down on it, and then the button as well. Yes, this was how she was going to end it. She knew blood was going to be on her hands now, and a few tears rolled down her face as the Fleija launched towards her brother’s forces.
This would make things right again.
It felt like it was too soon until that voice came again.
“It’s time to end it.”
A cry rose in her throat, but she swallowed it down. “Yes.” Was all she said, as she pressed that red button again. More lives on her hands, possibly even her brother’s. If it was to have peace again – if it was going to make the world a gentler place…
But it hadn’t worked. He was in front of her now, a figure in white. There was a part of her that wanted to go to him, to tell him how wrong he was and that maybe, just maybe it would change his mind. Nunnally knew better than that, as she held the Damocles Key closer to her. She would put on a mask, a brave face, just as he always had done to her. But this mask wasn’t for lies.
It was for peace.
She looked back down at the key – she wasn’t going to give it to him, no matter what he did or said. Even if he used that on her—
Her vision went blurry and she blinked a few times, shaking her head and looking back down at her hands.
The tips were red.
She shook her head again, looking over at Lelouch to see if he saw it, but he gave no indication. Her hand, which was shaking now, lifted itself off of the key and brushed against her dress, as if trying to get rid of it. It was as if she smudged it, her dress and her hand. There was more of it there – the color of blood. No matter how much she tried to wipe it off, more would come, and it would smudge on her hands and on her dress as well.
No, she couldn’t let herself get distracted. She had to do it. She had to end it all here. So she held the Damocles Key in front of her, trembling thumbs above the button.
“Murderer.” Lelouch said, and Nunnally’s eyes went wide.
“No…no…this is going to be—“
“Nunnally.” She looked up to the unfamiliar voice – that voice shouldn’t be here, should it? But there was Suzaku, as well as Gino, all starting to appear before her eyes. Soon, there were others. Milly, Rivalz, Nina, Kallen…the room steadily started to grow fuller, with people she even knew from Somarium. Ada, Oz, Tamaki, Aurora, Rapunzel…
It all seemed as if their eyes were fixated on the blood on her hands. She tried to hide them, her vision blurring with tears. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry—“
“Murderer.” They started to say, one by one, as she tried to hide the evidence of the blood. Their voices all started to meld together as she tried even harder to get away from it.
But she couldn’t. The blood wouldn’t go away.
[Finally, she woke up, trying to stifle a loud sob. She wipes her eyes and looks around the room, to see that the Dreamberry’s on. Her face flushes red and she reaches over to cut it off.]
