❦ 01 ;; dream
Warnings: Spoilers for the end of the series? idk
Dream Effect: changing between a very fond attachment towards the person in the dream and extreme sadness.
“--So if there’s been anything at all that you’ve been wishing for—“ The girl had been blind at the time, but now she could see Lelouch clearly in her dream. (Though he looked as he does now, in Somarium.) There was a folded crane in her hands, and she could feel a smile on her face.
“No, not really. What about you? Do you wish for anything?”
“I wish the world was a gentler place.” Nunnally nodded, but suddenly the image faded into black.
There was the sound of people yelling, cheering, it wasn't easy to make out, save for a girl crying. Though as Nunnally opened her eyes, all she could see was red – the crimson of her dress, the stain of the same color next to a still, blurry figure on the stage.
This had been a show. All of it, a show.
Nunnally’s sobs started to become louder, but suddenly there was the feeling of someone pulling her-someone’s taking her from the figure. She doesn’t want to leave, she doesn’t want to—
And the sounds of her sobbing faded away, as well as the sounds of the crowd. The image became clearer now, and this time Nunnally was on the throne. Her hands smoothed out over the armrests, and she took a couple of deep breaths.
Just another day.
But suddenly, there was something out of the ordinary. Lelouch appeared next to her instead of the silent Zero, and he smiled down at her. “You’ve done well, Nunnally.”
“Big brother—“ Nunnally gasped, her opening only wider. Her brother was here, he was really here! It had been all of her imagination after all, that horrible day. She was with her brother.
A relieved sigh escaped her lips as her expression softened, reaching out for the comfort of Lelouch's hand. As her hand slipped into his, she relaxed more. Solid. Warm. Just like it had always been.
He held her hand for just a minute, just one minute, before he started to move. Their hands slowly, to her horror, started to slip apart. Before she knew it, he was walking away from her, out of the throne room.
“No, don’t leave!” Her panicked voice filled her own ears, and she tried desperately to get out of the throne. Her shouting didn't even make him slow his pace. He continued walking away from her, no matter how much she yelled at him to stay.
She tried to get up off the throne, but her legs were as unresponsive as they ever were. Not for the first time, she felt just how useless she really was. The best thing she could do was lean over the chair, reaching out to the retreating figure with both hands. “I can’t—not without you! Come back! Lelouch!"
The sounds of her shouting kept going even as the dream started fading back out—
---
[Nunnally awoke with a start, her heart pounding. She took a couple of deep breaths as she tries to regain a hold of herself. No, it’s okay. He’s here. He won’t leave me—
Right?
She turns her head away from the Dreamberry, her chest starting to rise up and down in slower motions. Eventually, the feed times out.]

voice;
It was a dream.
voice;
She doesn't answer for a while, and then finally speaks up again.]
I...know.
[Her voice is just as quiet.]
voice;
voice;
Why do you say that? [A beat.] And yes, I'm feeling better. Thank you, C.C.
voice;
No need to thank me, I'm only being honest. He'll see this soon enough.
voice;
...I kind of hope he doesn't. I don't want to worry him. [Or make him feel bad.]
voice;
Have you stopped?
voice;
I fold them every now and then, but...I suppose I have stopped.
voice;
voice;
And please...don't have to call me Empress here.
voice;
I'm sure the world you'll live in now has plenty of room for them to be fulfilled.
voice; you don't*
...I'm sure they will.
voice, hueheuehehh..
voice, ;;
video;
Your brother loves you very much! So please, don't be sad!
video;
She reaches over to the Dreamberry and picks it up, staring at it for a few moments. Finally, her expression softens just a little bit.]
...I know he does. [It still doesn't help the heaviness in her heart - but she doesn't want to worry this girl.] It was...just a dream, after all.
video;
[ She inches closer to the device; face stern. ] You've got to be brave! For you brother, and yourself, too!
I know you can do it!
video;
[At the outburst, she blinks, surprised again.] Ah...of course. I'll try my best, then.
video;
[ Not like she likes to have bad dreams, or in this case someone else to. ] Great! And I'll pray you have you good dreams from now on!
video;
video;
-- Oh! My name is Colette, by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you!
video;

[ Serious face is totally serious... ] You have to think of happy things before you go to bed!

That sounds easy enough. I think I can do that.

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts!

Happy thoughts! [And she giggles.]
video;
Oh! But if anything ever happens, you can come to me and I'll try to help in whatever way I can. Alright, Nunnally?
video;
...Thank you very much, Colette. You cheered me up a lot.
video;
action??
Nunnally...
action!!
Though, nobody could exactly control their dreams, could they?
When he opens the door and speaks her name, she pushes herself up into a sitting position. It takes her a moment to respond, because she doesn't want to upset him more.]
Come in, Lelouch...
[Her fists clench just a little, grabbing her sheets and keeping a tight hold on them.]

My precious sister...
Is there anything I can say or do to take this pain away?
no subject
She knows she couldn't bear with losing him again. As much as his presence soothed her, it also made her all even sadder. How long would this last?
She doesn't say anything for a long time, concentrating on calming herself down. He's worried, she can tell. It's just a dream. Right?
So she takes a deep breath and relaxes her hands, putting her free hand on top of his. She takes hold of it in a strong, but not painful grip, one that says she's not going to let go anytime soon.
But what could she say? He had killed countless people, killed parts of their family, and had emotionally changed Suzaku after Euphemia's death. He had used his Geass on her, his only sister. Though she knows now it was an effort to keep her safe, but there could have been something -- anything...
and she isn't going to even think about the worst part.
She does forgive him for all of this - the time they were so graciously given to them to be together again wasn't the time to remain upset with him. But the hurt is still there, no matter how deep she tried to bury it. She had been okay, she had been dealing with it--
But that dream had unraveled all of that.]
...I don't think you can turn back time. [Her voice is quiet, barely above a whisper.] Your Geass probably doesn't allow for that, does it?
[Another pause. Another deep breath.]
Will you just...stay by my side, for now? It may not be much, but just having you near me will help.
no subject
No. It doesn't.
Nunnally--
I will stay by your side as long as you'll have me.
no subject
Things were so complicated now. Why did everything have to change?
She hated this. She hated the fact that she had to think twice about the things she said. If she was an uncaring person, it would be easy to say it anyway. But she wasn't that person - and the last thing she wanted to do was hurt him.
She's quiet again for a long time, and wipes her eyes to realize that they're wet. It doesn't help - it just makes her even more mad at herself.
Nunnally reaches out to Lelouch, leaning over in her bed so that she could wrap her arms around his shoulders.] I'm sorry...I'm so selfish, aren't I?
[And the tears just keep coming. As much as she had tried to be strong, she couldn't be. She hated it.]
...I hurt you, didn't I?
no subject
There is nothing you could ever do that would hurt me. You are, by far, one of the kindest and most generous people I've ever known, Nunnally. I wish that my heart was as big as yours.
Please don't cry... not over me.
no subject
[It's true. He acts like it's all her. But it's not, for reasons that she had already spoken.
Lelouch. Suzaku. The Student Council. Euphemia. The other parts of their family that she had met and spent precious moments with.
There was always someone that cared and loved her. The least she could do was try to return that - and show that same love to the ones who were without it. It's all she wanted. She didn't believe she was as great as he was saying she was, not at all.
When he wipes away her tears, she blinks hard and tries to compose herself. It's not exactly working, but she's trying.]
But...you're my big brother. [She can't not cry. Especially not after everything he's done for her.]
no subject
I can't bear to see you cry, Nunnally... especially when I'm the one that's causing those tears to pour from your beautiful eyes.
I know that I'm your big brother, but I'm far from what a big brother should be... So, please, try not to cry over me.
no subject
She sniffles as he wipes more tears from her face and she takes a couple deep breaths. It was okay, right? She'd be okay.]
I'm...I'm sorry.
[That dream had felt so real, and and brought back so many feelings, it was hard to bottle it all up. She wasn't good at masks like Schneizel and Lelouch.]
Don't say that! Back then, at Ashford, it was because of you I was able to smile. [There's another wave of tears threatening to come down her face, but she holds them back.] I don't know why you keep saying these things, but...please...stop.
no subject
I promise I won't say anything like that again.
Sometimes big brothers need a lesson or two from their little sisters on how to have some manners.
no subject
Of course. Little sisters and big brothers learn from each other, don't they?
[Though whether they're good things or not, well, that's another story.]
no subject
You need to get back to sleep, Nunnally. The hour is late.
no subject
Okay, Lelouch. I'll try to go back to sleep.
no subject
I'll sleep on the couch tonight, okay? I'll be right outside if you need me for the rest of the night.
I love you, Nunnally. I hope you sleep well.
no subject
I'll be sure to call you if I need anything.
[Trust her. She will. If not to make sure that he's still here more than anything else - a fear she'll probably never be able to shake, especially with her dream.]
I love you too, Lelouch. You sleep well too, okay?
